Volunteer Service Team

The National Library of Public Information (NLPI) has long been rooted in a strong tradition of public service. Since establishing its volunteer recruitment guidelines in 1990, and with the official formation of the Volunteer Service Team on November 8, 1992 under the leadership of its first captain, Ms. Li-Yu Chen, the program has grown steadily over more than three decades.

Today, the team comprises approximately 500 volunteers, ranging in age from 18 to 79, with diverse professional backgrounds including educators, civil servants, healthcare professionals, and retirees from various fields. Together, they embody a spirit of shared learning and collective vitality.

NLPI warmly invites members of the public aged 18 and above, with at least a high school education, good health, and a passion for service, to join this meaningful initiative. Volunteers are expected to demonstrate reliability and a strong sense of responsibility.

Service opportunities are wide-ranging, from fundamental tasks such as shelving, circulation assistance, and reader services, to more specialized roles including guided tours, publication proofreading, poster design, and audiovisual services. Volunteers also support popular programs such as children’s storytelling, family activities, and social media management.

The Volunteer Service Team plays a vital role in advancing NLPI’s comprehensive services. Through their support of programs, events, and exhibitions, volunteers are not only stewards of knowledge, but also guides who lead readers into the world of books. We warmly invite those with a passion for service to join us in shaping a new chapter in social education.
