Library Collection Development Policy
The “Collection Development Policy of the National Library of Public Information” establishes the development framework of the library as a national-level digital public library. The collection spans all academic disciplines and is committed to providing both physical and digital reading services. The physical collection now exceeds 1.5 million volumes, while digital resources include more than 190,000 titles. The policy is centered on meeting the needs of lifelong learning, research, and leisure. A selection committee ensures quality control, maintaining the relevance and practical value of resources.
In terms of collection highlights, NLPI focuses on “shared digital resources for public libraries nationwide,” acquiring e-books and databases accessible to readers across Taiwan. The library also preserves more than 20,000 volumes of historically significant Japanese-language publications. In addition, it has developed several distinctive digital platforms, including the Picture Book Database with multilingual audio, Designer's Hands, which showcases student design works, and the Digital Archives Service Platform. NLPI maintains a comprehensive collection of children’s literature and serves as a depository for government publications, preserving records of national governance.
Through regular evaluation and systematic maintenance, the policy ensures that the collection remains current and responsive. Moving forward, NLPI will continue to strengthen digital archives and national language resources, while supporting the public library system across Taiwan in advancing resource sharing and cultural preservation.
